First, who actually invented the classic Chevy? Was it Durrant or Louis?

William Dumont started the Chevrolet Motor Company in 1911, after he was released from working at General Motors a year earlier.

He started the company with a companion, and they released their first car, called Classic Six. This car went for somewhere around $2150, and was only for the elite upper class.

The majority of the people and middle class could not afford such a car, and the cars were reserved for the wealthier class. A few years later, they came out with more affordable cars, and they priced them for around $650.

This was about the time when more typical families were able to have cars of their own.

The company then proceeded to join General Motors after it’s creation, starting the chevrolet beginning history. It was one of the top three motor companies of the time, even right after it’s creation.

These manufacturers continued to progress and create more inventions and other benefits to make cars cheaper and safer. They used a mass production assembly line just as Henry Ford did before them, and they were able to make a lot of cars, faster and cheaper then before.

This was the age of the automobile, and everyone was soon able to afford and have their own car to drive.

Next time you look at an antique classic Chevy at a car show, think about the beginning history of how it came about. Say a quick thank you to William and Louis for having the insight to start this “American Pie”.
